    It's 1965, and Gate's guitar sound is different — not so brash and trebly but smoother, with more of a jazz and occasional country kick. Most of these sides were never issued after being acquired by Chess. There are two takes of Little Jimmy Dickens's C&W novelty hit "May the Bird of Paradise," both of 'em swinging easy. Gate was in a Sonny Boy Williamson mood that day, reviving three of the harpist's oldies along with a few of his own and the ominous blues "Long Way Home," which threatens mayhem most charmingly.... by Bill Dahl
